My name is Charalampos (Babis for short) Nikolaou. I am a PhD candidate at the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications (DI&T) of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). My supervisor is Manolis Koubarakis and the rest of my PhD committee members consists of Vassilis Christophides and Philippe Rigaux. The subject of my PhD thesis is "Temporal and spatial knowledge representation on RDF databases".

I've received my B.Sc in Computer Science from DI&T, NKUA in 2007 and my M.Sc. in Computer Systems Technology from the same department in 2010. Since 2008, I am a member of the Management of Data and Information Knowledge Group (MaDgiK).

gp-rcc8

The gp-rcc8 project implements a reasoner for the RCC-8 calculus. Reasoner gp-rcc8 employs graph partitioning to reduce the initial size of the network and exploits the degree of parallelism offered by current computer architectures by checking consistency of these smaller subnetworks in a parallel fashion.

Sextant

Sextant is a web-based system for the visualization and exploration of time-evolving linked geospatial data and the creation, sharing, and collaborative editing of `temporally-enriched' thematic maps which are produced by combining different sources of such data and other geospatial information available in standard OGC file formats (e.g., KML).

BibTooL

The BibTooL project comprises a set of shell scripts for simple processing of bibtex files. The term `simple processing' can be understood as the level of processing needed to reach a clean/consistent/organized state of a bibtex "database". The challenging part of this project is that it fullfils its goal having as a basis the power and flexibility that a shell provides. The ultimate goal of this project is to be portable to various platforms, such as Linux, Unix, SunOS, Mac OS X, Windows, etc. This is not the case right now, but it shall be while the project evolves.

Strabon

Strabon is a fully implemented semantic geospatial database system that can be used to store linked geospatial data expressed in RDF and query them using an extension of SPARQL, stSPARQL, and GeoSPARQL. Strabon supports spatial selections, spatial joins, a rich set of spatial functions similar to those offered by geospatial relational database systems, support for multiple Coordinate Reference Systems and widely used serializations for geometric objects such as WKT and GML. Strabon is built on top of the well-known RDF store Sesame and extends Sesame's components to be able to manage thematic and spatial data that are stored in PostGIS or MonetDB.
