In 1996 he received an M.Sc. degree (with honours) in Advanced Information Systems and in 2001 he worked out his PhD thesis at the Dept. of Informatics with the title "Optical Character Recognition for the Notation of the Orthodox Hellenic Byzantine Music" in the area of Pattern Recognition, Optical Character Recognition and Byzantine Music Technology. He also holds the Diploma of Byzantine Music. Is married with Kaplani Eirini and they have 4 childrens. From 2005 till 2010, he was "Lampadarios" in "Agioi Apostoloi" church of Pefki - Attiki, and currently he is "Protopsaltis" in "Agios  Panteleimon" church of Pefki.

He worked for the International Conference Eusipco-98 and has also participated in various other conferences and projects. He is currently working as a telecommunications engineer in the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization. In parallel, he is continuing his research in the area of Byzantine Music Technology and Pattern Recognition in the University of Athens. He is also deals with Hellenic traditional music, traditional instruments, Byzantine music choir and the teaching of the Byzantine Music.

 Research area:

κουκκίδα His research area is Optical Character Recognition and he is trying to find algorithms for recognizing the Notation of the Greek Byzantine Music that is written in books since 1814.
κουκκίδα The Recognition of the Byzantine Music Symbols is a difficult task since there are 71 distinct characters that has to be classified.  All these characters are combined each other to form semantic musical groups of characters, each one having its own musical meening.
κουκκίδα Concerning the segnetation of the characters from a Byzantine music page there is an advantage that the byzantine symbols do not touch each other .
κουκκίδα He is currently developed the main part of the OCR system, which has to do with the recognition of the characters and the achived recognition accuracy is up to 99,4%.
κουκκίδα Also, a complete OCR system for Byzantine Music Notation has been developed about 80%, within a project called "POLYMNIA".
