Projects

  1. P2P Architect
The aim of this project was the definition and implementation of a tool-supported methodology for ensuring at the architectural level that dependability requirements of P2P applications are met.
  2. CBSENet
Network of Excellence for Component-based Development. CBSEnet was a network Network of Excellence which aimed to a) create a European-wide forum for the exchange of information between researchers and developers working in the area of CBSE; b) suggest how CBSE technologies could improve software engineering processes in different domains and to propose future research requirements for development and deployment of CBSE technologies.
  3. Development of an Integrated Network of Voice and Data
The aim of this project was the development of a network and telecommunication infrastructure at the University of Piraeus, the management of active and passive elements of voice and data networks, the web administration and the provision of modern network services and advanced applications in telematics. This project was funded by the Greek government.
  4. EYDOXOS In-service Education for educators of the Eastern Aegian islands
The aim of this project was the development of a distant learning system for the in-service education of teachers in the secondary schools. Two different models of distant education was implemented in the scope of this project: (1) a model of synchronous communication between learners and teachers based on the bi-directional transmission of learning material, video and sound, (2) a model of asynchronous communication between learners and teachers based on the Web technologies. This project was funded by the Greek government.
  5. Real Time Interactive Tele-lectures
This project aimed at the development of a system for the support and the management of real-time interactive tele-lectures.
  6. HyperNews
The HyperNews project aimed at developing an electronic newspaper environment based on agent technology for the WWW. This environment would offer the information providers of newspapers, magazines and alike the means to commercialize electronically the information they hold under similar commercial conditions as the printed versions. It would also offer the information consumers the means to reduce the time spent in retrieving the information for which they have expressed interest without being tied to a specific information provider. This project was funded by the Swiss government (SPP-ICS Project, 5003-45332).
  7. SmartPay
The aim of the SmartPay project was the development of a payment mechanism that would fit for normal payments as well as Internet payments. To satisfy both demands, it was obvious that the resulting scheme would use off-line authorisation for the payments, as otherwise it couldn’t be used efficiently at kiosks or inside taxis, which don’t necessarily have any online connection to their bank for each transfer. This project was funded by the Swiss government (SPP-ElCom Project, 5003-54557).
  8. Distributed Rehearsal
This project was part of the more general program Distributed Video Production, that was funded by the European Commission (EU ACTS, AC089). This project targeted in developing a telepresence environment for the support of Distributed Rehearsals. These rehearsals could be theater rehearsals or musical rehearsals. The aim of the distributed rehearsal application was to allow the organization of rehearsals without requiring the participants (actors, musicians, conductors etc.) to be physically in the same room, eliminating thus the need to travel from one city to another for participating in the rehearsal.
