Greek dancing at one of the many banquets!!

Present were: Andras Farago, Tamas Henk, Miklos Boda, Arne Nilsson, Demetres Kouvatsos, Herwig Bruneel, Ilias Iliadis, Raymond Marie, Yannis Stavrakakis, Jacques Labetoulle, Yutaka Takahashi, Sebastia Galmes, Bart Steyart, Harry Perros, Edith Halasz, Zholt Haraszti, Sandor Molnar, and Hetyei Gabor. We were honored with the presence and challenging talk of Bernt Ericsson, Vice President for research and technology in Ericsson. Also, there were over 20 very bright Ph.D. students from the Budapest Technical University and the Traffic Lab of Ericsson, Boudapest. The overwhelming local paricipation made the workshop exciting and worth while.

Participants having a good time ..!!

The organization of the workshop was excellent thanks to our Hungarian colleagues, and in particular to Edith Halasz. Our thanks also go to Miklos Boda, head of the Ericsson Traffic Lab in Budapest, who generously covered some of the expenses of the workshop, thus significantly reducing the registration fee. The entertainment was excellent and I will not forget the several musical evenings that we attended, nor would I forget that night at the restaurant with the gypsies, where certain WG 6.3 members over-enjoyed themsleves!

Minutes of the business meeting:

1. Dates and events:

  • The "Performance Tools '97" conference will be held in St. Malo France, June 2-6, 1997. The general chairman is Raymond Marie. This conference is co-sponsored by WG 6.3.
  • The Tsukuba conference will be held in November 17-21, 1997 Tsukuba, Japan. This is part of the performance conference held in Japan every three years. Yutaka Takahashi is the program chairman. The conference is co-sponsored by WG 6.3.
  • Our flagship conference will be held in Lund, Sweden. The date will be fixed soon, and it will be during the Spring of 1998. The organizer is Ulf Koerner.
  • It was decided that our next workshop will be held in Greece, August 1999. The organizers are: Yannis Stavrakakis, Ilias Iliadis, and Dimitri Kouvatsos.
  • After the end the business meeting Herwig expressed a strong interest in organizing a workshop in Ghent, Belgium, between now and the Lund conference. The date will most likely be late August/early September of 1997. The exact date and details to be worked out.
  • For the year 2000 we are planning a super-conference jointly with Working Groups: 6.2, 6.3, 6.4. The conference will be held in Paris or in London. That was a requirement of our TC6 Chairman, Otto Spaniol, who felt that Paris or London would " be a romantic place for the 2000 year conference...".
  • The excellent local participation at the Balatonfured workshop, prompted members to remark that this should be a requirement for all future WG 6.3. workshops and conferences. This will give us more recognition and it will also facilitate a better diffusion of knowledge .

2. Membership

  • It was re-iterated that membership should be open, subject to appropriate qualifications. The area of performance of telecommunications is continuously changing, and the WG 6.3 members shift their research interests through time. In view of this, it was felt that we should renew our group membership every five years. Therefore, after the Lund conference, we will re-examine the membership of the working group. The details will be worked out at another WG 6.3 workshop or by email.

Harry Perros.
