This page contains my academic achievements in reverse
chronological order. Essentially here you can find stuff which I performed while being a postgraduate student and
consider interesting. Unfortunately, some of them are available only in
Greek. For a complete list of my publications you should try the following page.
Ph.D
I started working on my Ph.D [pdf | ppt] on 2006 and
got my diploma on 2010. My research focused on distributed knowledge
discovery and particularly on the effective and efficient
preprocessing of data by means of distributed dimensionality
reduction. The latter is getting more and more important
as the rate of data
generation and distribution significantly outperforms our
ability to explore and analyse it. The contribution of my work is
captured in the following list:
-
A novel algorithm, FEDRA, was
introduced . FEDRA is a
dimensionality reduction algorithm which poses minimum time and
space requirements and is ideal for large datasets of particularly high cardinality
and dimensionality [src and more].
Inspired by
the nature of landmark based dimensionality reduction algorithms,
the distributed adaptation of FEDRA has been developed
and its underlying methodology was extended in order to
derive a framework for the decentralization of any landmark based
dimensionality reduction algorithm
A distributed non
linear dimensionality reduction algorithm, the Distributed Isomap, was also
proposed, which to the
best of my knowledge comprises the first of this kind [src and more].
Finally, X-SDR has been introduced, an
open-source tool that enables the integration and evaluation of any dimensionality reduction algorithm.
M.Sc
During my master studies I undertook
various courses that changed my perception regarding the role and
operation of an Information System in the context of an
organization. Here you can find four essays which I consider
extremely interesting.
Tutoring
During my PhD studies as well as my involvement with the SCAN lab I gave numerous lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students of AUEB and UoA. I have also given a number of lectures in the Hellenic Ministry of Economics and Finance during a series of training courses. Here you can see a list of all courses I've taught:
- Hellenic Ministry of Economics and Finance - Data Mining and Machine Learning
- University of Athens - Software Engineering for Telecommunication Systems (2 semesters)
- Athens University of Economics and Business - Advanced Databases (MSc level, 1 semester)
- Athens University of Economics and Business - Programming with Java (3 semesters)
- Athens University of Economics and Business - Analysis and Design of Information Systems (2 semesters)
- Athens University of Economics and Business - Data Mining and Machine Learning (3 semesters)
