CENTER OF RESEARCH AND APPLICATIONS OF NONLINEAR SYSTEMS
UNIVERSITY OF PATRAS
AWARD FOR BEST PAPER GOES TO:
V. DRAKOPOULOS
As announced in the CRANS webpage last year, the Center circulated a call
for papers by young Greek scientists working for their Ph. D. in an area
of Nonlinear Science. By the deadline date of Januari 31, 1999, a number
of papers were submitted and were distributed among members of the Panhellenic
Organizing Committee of Summer Schools / Conferences on "Nonlinear Dynamics:
Chaos and Complexity". As there were no experimental papers submitted,
only one award was given, for a theoretical paper. The award carried the
amount of 100.000 drs., which came from a donation to CRANS by "Tsambas
Mettalotehniki" company of Orthomenos, Voiotia.
The announcement of the decision of the Panhellenic Organizing Committee
was made during the 12th Summer School / Conference, July 14-24, 1999,
at Patras and the award was given to Vassilis Drakopoulos for his paper:
"Generalized Computation of Schroder Iteration
Functions to Motivate Families of Julia and Mandelbrot-like Sets"
Mr. Drakopoulos' paper had been recently published in the SIAM Journal
of Numerical Analysis and constituted an important part of his thesis for
the Ph. D. degree from the Department of Informatics at the University
of Athens. We wish Vassilis every succes in his future scientific career.
